Day 1
Kuala Lumpur to Beijing
Gather at KLIA Terminal 1 for the flight to Beijing.
Day 2
Beijing
Meals: Lunch, dinner
The trip opens at the Summer Palace, built in the twelfth century around Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake. You then walk the Olympic Village and photograph its murals, and the Water Cube, the great glass box that hosted the swimming. The Bird's Nest stadium, the icon of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, follows. Overnight in Beijing.
Day 3
Beijing
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast you visit Tiananmen Square, a place thick with history, and then the Forbidden City, the palace complex begun in 1406 under the Ming dynasty and now more than 600 years old. At the Jade Center you see how jade — central to Chinese ornament — is worked, and there are prayers at the oldest mosque in Beijing. Shopping follows at the Muslim supermarket and the Chinese Herb Center, and the afternoon ends with an acrobatic show. Overnight in Beijing.
Day 4
Beijing
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast you visit the Great Wall of China, the defensive wall counted among the wonders of the world, then the Burning Cream Center, a traditional Chinese medicine centre. Shopping follows on Xiushui Street, better known as Silk Street. Overnight in Beijing.
Day 5
Beijing to Hohhot and Baotou
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast you take the bullet train to Hohhot. The Xilamuren Grassland is one of the finest stretches of natural grassland anywhere — green as far as you can see, scattered with wild flowers, and grazed by horses, cattle and sheep. Overnight in Baotou.
Day 6
Baotou to Ordos and Hohhot
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast you head for the Kubuqi Desert, whose sand hills draw visitors for desert trekking, sandboarding, camel riding and the cable car, each at a small extra cost. It is an unusual landscape and a hard one to forget. Overnight in Hohhot.
Day 7
Hohhot to Beijing
Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
After breakfast you visit the Grand Mosque, the earliest and largest mosque built in Hohhot, then buy your way through the Muslim food street in the bazaar. The tour continues to the Inner Mongolia Museum, built in 1957 in the middle of Hohhot. Overnight in Beijing.
Day 8
Beijing to Kuala Lumpur
Meals: In-flight meal
Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport for the flight home to Kuala Lumpur.
